Unlocking investment for regenerative agriculture at landscape level

Diageo Office – 16 Great Marlborough Street, London W1F 7HS

About this Event

To limit climate change to 1.5°C and remain within Earth’s planetary boundaries, transforming agri-food systems through regenerative agriculture is critical. This requires scaling regenerative agriculture from 15% to 40% of global cropland by 2030 – an increase that could avoid around 600 million tons of greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions. One of the key levers to decarbonize the agricultural sector is to transition to regenerative farming practices, transform land use practices to avoid deforestation and promote restoration and reforestation. These approaches not only mitigate emissions but also improve ecosystem and value chain resilience.

This London Climate Action Week panel session, organized by the One Planet Business for Biodiversity (OP2B) Coalition and supported by Diageo, will explore how landscape-level regenerative agriculture can be scaled and replicated across landscapes, regions and geographies through expanding and diversifying financing models.

Building on learnings from the first OP2B landscape deep-dive project in the East of England, panelists will share concrete learnings and early outcomes from this regional initiative, noting strategies, opportunities and enabling conditions for collaboration, financing, and replication. Discussions will explore how we can move beyond a model primarily funded by actors in the agricultural value chain, to one that engages a broader set of landscape stakeholders—including public and cross-sectoral private actors —with the goal of de-risking the transition for farmers. By focusing on practical, replicable solutions and defining shared responsibility across the value chain, this session will move beyond the “why” to showcase the “how” of delivering regenerative agriculture at scale.

One Planet Business for Biodiversity (OP2B) Coalition and supported by Diageo

The UN Climate Action summit saw the launch of the One Planet Business for Biodiversity (OP2B) coalition in 2019 as part of the One Planet Lab. Since 2021, OP2B has been a program of the World Business Council for Sustainable Development (WBCSD). Now comprised of 27 companies representing a collective market value of more than USD $726 billion, OP2B is an international, cross-sectoral and action-oriented business coalition on biodiversity with a specific focus on regenerative agriculture. We are determined to transform agricultural models and catalyze action to protect and restore cultivated and natural biodiversity in agricultural value chains.
