Language: The film is primarily in Dutch with English subtitles
In the run up to the London Climate Action Week’ the Dutch Centre will be screening the inspiring documentary Green Musketeer.
Green Musketeer tells the remarkable story of Dutch inventor Pieter Hoff, a visionary who dedicated his life to an ambitious mission: planting two billion hectares of trees on degraded land worldwide. Driven by a desire to combat water shortages, climate change, and food scarcity, Hoff developed ingenious ‘intelligent buckets,’ the Waterboxx® and the Growboxx®, that enable successful tree and vegetable cultivation in arid environments without the need for irrigation.
This compelling film follows Hoff’s unwavering determination and optimism as he implemented his innovative solutions in challenging locations across the globe, from China and Tibet to Dubai and Mexico. However, the documentary also honestly portrays the hurdles he encountered, including the slow uptake of his ideas and his personal battle with illness. Green Musketeer offers a powerful reflection on moral leadership, the power of innovation, and the persistent pursuit of a greener future.
Adding a personal dimension to the evening, the screening will include an introduction by Wout Hoff, Pieter’s son. Wout has taken up his father’s mantle at Groasis, continuing the vital work of reforestation. Following the film, there will be an opportunity for a post-screening discussion with Wout Hoff, offering a chance to delve deeper into the themes of the film and the ongoing efforts in sustainable reforestation.
Groasis has been assigned a Dutch National Icon. National Icons are remarkable innovations that create jobs, increase exports for the Netherlands and have the opportunity to change the world. They contribute to the resolution of societal challenges. These Icons are selected every two years and receive extensive support from the Dutch government.
