About this Event
The London Mine: How can London be a leader in urban mining and circular building development?
Panellists will discuss what can be done to reduce the impact of demolition on the planet and how we can avoid wasting buildings. Urban mining focuses on treating obsolete buildings and structures as a resource, from which materials, such as steel, concrete, plastics or other building materials are extracted and reused in new projects. This panel discussion will focus on how we can build a market for urban mining in London, exploring whether the capital can become a world leader in the sustainable reuse of construction materials to create a better and more sustainable built environment.
With opening remarks from Georgia Elliot-Smith, ESG expert and green buildings campaigner, panellists include:
Kerry Greeves, Director, Arup
Kemi Owoeye, Sustainable Design Lead, Willmott Dixon
James Adams, Founder, Maconda Solutions and ROMULUS circular economy lead
Frank Blande, Senior Sustainability Lead, GPE
Lorraine Chan, Architect, Fletcher + Priests
CHAIR: Ben Monteith, SEC Newgate UK
Fleet Street Quarter BID
In February 2022, local businesses voted overwhelmingly in favour of establishing the Fleet Street Quarter Business Improvement District (BID). This favourable outcome demonstrated a strong mandate amongst businesses to work more collectively in leading, shaping and influencing a comprehensive programme of activity – positioning the Fleet Street Quarter as a thriving and vibrant destination.
Encompassing an area which features Fleet Street at its heart, but embracing fascinating areas such as Chancery Lane, Holborn, Ludgate Hill and New Street Square, the Fleet Street Quarter aspires to shape the whole area into a thriving place to live, work, and visit.
