Sustainability-Linked Re/Insurance Solutions: Innovations for Resilience Finance
The Hang at SEC Newgate UK Farringdon London EC1N 8SBAbout this Event
As the world moves beyond 1.5°C of global warming, climate-linked risks are escalating across physical, transition, and financial domains—placing increasing pressure on the re/insurance industry to adapt. Rising losses are already making coverage unaffordable or unavailable in parts of the global south and even in advanced economies, threatening both market stability and public resilience.
At the same time, re/insurance has untapped potential to serve as a lever for innovation, climate risk reduction, and performance-linked finance. New sustainability-linked insurance (SLI) models—those tied to measurable environmental or resilience outcomes—are emerging with significant potential to drive risk reduction, capital mobilisation, and innovation in public-private financial architecture. Still, structural and regulatory hurdles, short contract cycles, and limited pricing incentives continue to inhibit scale.
This session will convene underwriters, reinsurers, public actors, and financial institutions to explore how sustainability-linked re/insurance and public-private risk-sharing tools can be developed and deployed at scale.
Positioned within London’s global role in insurance and finance, the discussion will identify actionable strategies to integrate these models into sovereign and sub-sovereign financing, close protection gaps, and build adaptive financial systems.
The dialogue supports broader agendas—from COP30 deliverables to the sustainable development goals—by focusing on implementation-oriented solutions that respond to the urgency of systemic risk.
