Securing Our Future: Parliamentary Leadership in Financing Climate Adaptation

About this Event

Event Description: With escalating climate risks and more frequent natural disasters, climate adaptation is increasingly urgent. Despite clear evidence of climate change’s dire consequences, global action remains inadequate, and the capacity to adapt varies significantly across countries.

Parliamentarians are crucial to ensuring national resilience. The COP28 in Dubai, UAE, in December 2023, marked progress with the “UAE Consensus” and the Global Goal on Adaptation Framework. However, the Global Stocktake revealed major gaps in adaptation efforts. Alarmingly, adaptation finance has decreased by 15%, underscoring the need to address this as we approach COP 29 in Baku, Azerbaijan, in November 2024, where critical finance decisions will be made.

Thematic Focus: Parliamentary Action for Climate Adaptation Finance

Objectives:
This event brings together members of parliament to explore their role in driving accountability for climate adaptation, align national policies with international climate goals, and enhance strategies for mobilizing adaptation finance. It also emphasizes the prioritizing of the needs of the most vulnerable.

Speakers: Members of Parliament and key development partners.
