Sea Changes
The Ministry 103 Gaunt Street London SE1 6DP
About this Event
Our actions now affect whether the sea changes for better or worse.
Last June, 6 women working in the fields of nature, climate & sustainability set off to circumnavigate Great Britain in a rowing boat, aiming to tell the story of our coastal seas through scientific data and testimonies of those working to protect critical ecosystems and build strong, resilient economies around our shores.
In this event during London Climate Action Week, we share what we learned through the voices of those who taught us: scientists, conservationists, innovators, policy makers and (most importantly) coastal communities whose lives and livelihoods are intimately entwined with the ocean, and who are best placed to design and deliver solutions.
This is a story of hope and potential: what we heard and witnessed shows that – by working together, empowering the right people, and giving nature a chance to regenerate – we have every opportunity to deliver the sea change that’s needed to restore our coastal ecosystems and create a resilient future for our planet.
The event will culminate with the official launch of the Protected Areas Foundation – a new charity dedicated to supporting and scaling community-led management of MPAs, starting in England and Scotland.
Sea Change Row & Protected Areas Foundation
Sea Change Row: an environmental impact campaign built around an expedition to circumnavigate Great Britain in a rowing boat while capturing environmental data and stories from coastal communities.
Protected Areas Foundation: a UK charity dedicated to sharing the capacity and skills of coastal communities, mobilising sustainable finance, and enabling co-governance to effectively manage marine protected areas (MPAs).
