Roundtable: Creating an Open-source, Whole Lifecycle Footprinting System
Imperial College London Main Entrance, Exhibition Road, London, SW7 2AZAbout this Event
Using machine learning, Imperial has devised a groundbreaking method that can, in principle, rapidly estimate the carbon emissions of all goods, encompassing the products’ full life cycle. In theory, this would enable comparison on a product-by-product basis for key stakeholder groups such as consumers, customers, and suppliers, and would help to address data gaps whilst driving greater data transparency and data capture.
Imperial wishes to build on this breakthrough to create an open-source footprinting system, making its calculations and datasets freely available for use globally, so the world’s combined purchasing power can be leveraged in the fight against climate change.
To support the scoping and development of this initiative, Imperial College London and UN Global Compact Network UK will be co-hosting a roundtable at Imperial College London to bring together a range of companies to discuss the project, gain insight, and explore options before moving on to testing and data-building phases.
This roundtable will feature an introduction from Steve Kenzie, Executive Director of UN Global Compact Network UK, followed by presentations and workshops led by Professor Nilay Shah and his team from Imperial College London. A networking lunch will also be provided.
We are inviting companies primarily involved in product manufacturing, who have an in-depth understanding of lifecycle emissions data, to participate in this roundtable and contribute to this important discussion.
This roundtable will appeal to senior sustainability professionals, those who are involved in sustainable procurement, and those involved in the carbon footprint of their own or procured goods.
