Reimagining climate policy— participation, trust and collective action
stby london De Beauvoir Block (5) 92-96 De Beauvoir Road London N1 4EN United Kingdom
About this Event
As climate awareness continues to grow, a critical gap remains— the meaningful participation of local communities and institutions in shaping and driving climate action. This gathering will bring together diverse perspectives to ask:
How can we design collaborative climate policy with communities and institutions through participation and trust?
Through a mix of real-world case studies from the City of London, Golden Lane Estate, Quicksand, and Stby, and collective reflection, we will:
-Examine persistent barriers to public participation in climate policy
-Explore conditions that enable community-driven initiatives
-Surface perspectives on how policy can become a platform for collaboration
This gathering is designed not just to share learnings and experiences, but to co-create insights that can shape future practice and policy. We hope to inspire new ways of working together, across sectors and with communities, to advance climate justice and place-based action.

Stby and Quicksand
Stby and Quicksand are long-time partner studios working at the intersection of design research, service innovation, and social impact and united by a belief in the power of human-centred design to drive systems change. With studios in London, Amsterdam, Delhi, Bangalore, and Goa, we bring together local insights and global perspectives shaped by nearly two decades of practice in both the Global North and South. Our work spans a wide range of sectors including, but not limited to: public health, education, climate, public policy, social justice and financial inclusion.
Stby brings deep expertise in participatory design research, supporting organisations to meaningfully connect with communities and design more inclusive services and systems. Quicksand's interdisciplinary practice brings a strong foundation in emerging markets, co-creating innovative solutions grounded in people’s lived experiences to ensure that interventions are contextually relevant and impactful. Together, we design collaborative processes that build trust, foster shared ownership, and translate lived experience into actionable strategy.
