Public-Private Partnerships for a Sustainable Building Sector

240 Blackfriars Rd, London SE1 8NW, United Kingdom – Rambøll’s London office

About this Event

Decarbonising the built environment is a shared European challenge. With buildings accounting for a significant share of global energy use and CO₂ emissions, advancing sustainable construction and large-scale energy renovation is vital to reaching climate goals, improving energy security, and addressing energy poverty.
Denmark’s experience shows that public-private partnerships (PPPs) can play a central role in accelerating this transi-tion. Through the Climate Partnership for Building and Construction, Denmark brought together stakeholders from across the value chain to identify actionable solutions. Today, this work lives on in the industry-driven initiative Ac-tion plan for sustainable construction, showcasing continued collaboration between businesses, public authorities and knowledge institutions.
The potential of PPPs is also highlighted in State of Green’s new publication on Energy Renovation of Buildings, which presents concrete Danish examples of how PPPs are delivering results in the built environment. The topic is timely across Europe, including in the UK, where efforts to improve building performance and reduce energy poverty are gaining renewed political and market focus.
Event Concept To share experiences and inspire new collaborations, State of Green is planning a roundtable during London Climate Action Week 2025, focusing on how public-private partnerships can drive sustainable practices in building and con-struction.
The event will bring together Danish and UK stakeholders to explore questions such as:

How can partnerships between government and industry accelerate building decarbonisation?

What kind of regulation and long-term policy signals are needed to support industry investment in energy renovation and low-carbon construction?

How can energy renovation contribute to social outcomes, such as reducing energy poverty and improving well-being?
