Plan ahead: Climate Resilience for London’s Cultural Venues
BFI Southbank, Belvedere Road, London, SE1 8XT
About this Event
Adapting to climate change is one of the most pressing challenges facing London, with extreme weather events such as the flash floods of 2021 and the record-breaking heatwave of 2022 already impacting people, places, and services across the capital. Cultural venues and visitor attractions are uniquely positioned to support Londoners in responding to these risks, both through adaptation of their buildings and by helping to raise awareness and build resilience among the communities they serve.
This workshop, delivered in partnership by the BFI, Arts Council England and South Bank and Waterloo Sustains Us, will bring together leaders from across London’s cultural and visitor sector.
Explore new climate risk mapping by Bloomberg Associates to better understand how to adapt your cultural organisation to London’s changing climate. Hear about inspiring case studies and best practice and workshop with peers how you can adapt your operations, develop strategic estate planning, as well as budgeting and financial support for climate adaptation.
The event will also see the launch of a new Cool off in Culture initiative, to map participating venues where Londoners and visitors can find ‘cool spaces’ during heatwaves this summer. Learn how you can be part of this exciting new initiative with your cultural space!
Join us to help shape how London’s cultural sector can lead the way in building a more climate-resilient London.
