Its Not Just Climate! How financial crime interacts with climate and the other threats we face
Online event
About this Event
It’s not just about climate! This session looks at related aspects to assist in the climate transition. It addresses the nexus between climate and financial crime deterrence. How can the latter be improved to assist the former? Planetary threats are tenfold: climate, biodiversity loss, deforestation, desertification, soil degradation, ocean degradation, pollution, resources and waste abuse, population growth and consumption, and water mismanagement. Many anti-planetary behaviours are criminalised, but by no means all, or not in all countries, or not enforced. Added to this are the overarching issues of money laundering, corruption, fraud, etc. We have adopted the overarching title of “Terracide” for these issues, and the session will provide an opportunity to understand more, make comments, suggestions, and questions.
