Is ‘Impact Certification’ the new sweet spot between practice-based certification and carbon markets?

The Salon, London Design District, 13 Soames Walk, Greenwich Peninsula, London, SE10 0AX

About this Event

Join us at Design District’s Salon Room for an exciting discussion on the role of impact certification in evolving practice certification into impact-based systems, and placing guard rails onto those participating in the carbon market and scope 3 claims. Hear from expert stakeholders on how this concept has emerged, why it is important, and how industry can leverage this concept to make a positive impact on the environment.

Thanks to the generosity of the Future Fabrics Expo (FFE), attendees to this event will also receive a 20% discount code for tickets to FFE 2025.

Speakers:
Natalie Della Valle, The Fashion Pact
Tom Berry, Sustainability Advisor, formerly Farfetch and Kimberly-Clark
Shari Friedman, Eurasia Group, formerly IFC
Laila Petrie, Director General at Future Earth Lab

Agenda:
1: Evolving certification: What are the benefits of adding detailed impact analysis and incentives within existing certified supply chains and landscapes?
Certification has been a solution developed to address supply chain sustainability since the 90s, and has played an important role in increasing voluntary action. But what are the new opportunities in expanding supply chain action to include more accurate measurement, farmer-level financial solutions, and a shift beyond conventional practice-based certification?

2: Evolving climate claims: Why is it important we put ‘guard rails’ on the carbon market?
Solutions like ‘insetting’ and Scope 3 claims are emerging as ways to apply stringent standards of quantification and traceability to carbon market claims. But what else is important to consider when creating solutions for environmental claims – and what are the weaknesses in the current systems?

3: What is ‘Impact Certification’ and what are its implications for climate action?
What is the concept of Impact Certification, how has it emerged, and what is its strategic value for companies? Future Earth Lab will draw on its Unlock Programme to illustrate the concept of ‘Impact Certification’ and its strategic importance for private sector decarbonisation It will also launch a series of white papers on Impact Certification and carbon market guard rails, including a consultation with Global South stakeholders on inclusion in emerging solutions.
