Integrated Nature & Climate Transition Planning
About this Event
We are hosting an informal Breakfast Roundtable to discuss what it means to develop and implement an integrated nature and climate transition plan.
Transition planning is the process of preparing for something in the future. In the context of climate change, this is a strategic plan for shifting the organisation and its operations towards a net zero future that is aligned with the global climate goals established in the Paris Agreement.
Initially focused only on climate, there is increasing recognition of the need to develop more integrated approaches that combine biodiversity loss and climate change. Climate change is one of the top drivers of biodiversity loss and ecosystem breakdown globally, whilst ecosystem resilience and biodiversity integrity are key solutions to addressing both climate mitigation and adaptation, such as through carbon storage and sequestration and natural flood risk management.
A climate and nature transition plan should outline how an organisation intends to shift its operations, processes, and business models to address both climate change and biodiversity loss in an integrated way
The Transition Planning Taskforce and WWF have both published guidance on how to address nature in the transition planning process but there are few examples of how this has been done in practice.
This session will be an opportunity to hear from some of the leaders and advisors in transition planning, to share experiences, discuss challenges, build capacity and understanding amongst co-professionals as transition planning matures.
This event is for everyone interested in what transition planning means, regardless of whether you are advanced in your understanding, or just interested to know more.
