High-level Roundtable on Financing the Food Systems Transformation: Innovative Financing Models to Scale Commercial Capital
Location to be provided upon registration confirmation
About this Event
Facing a $1.1 trillion annual financing gap and the threat of global warming exceeding 2°C, the urgency to increase financial investment in transforming food systems has never been greater, with strong potential for long-term returns.
Despite accounting for approximately 30% of global greenhouse gas emissions, food systems receive only about 5% of the $1.3 trillion invested annually in climate transition. Unlocking greater capital flows will require innovative financing mechanisms. Diversity of food systems (across crops and geographies) and the differing starting points of financial institutions mean there is no one size fits all here. Several financing models could lower investment barriers and bring in commercial players. These models can accommodate a broad range of financial actors, from commercial banks and asset managers to agricultural banks, philanthropists, aid agencies and food corporations.
Alongside London Climate Action Week, the World Economic Forum and Bain & Company are hosting a roundtable on “Innovative financing models to scale commercial capital into food systems transformation” and are bringing together leading financial institutions to:
• Discuss how financial institutions can invest in food systems transformation through innovative financing models
• Showcase successful financing models
• Discuss upcoming priorities and areas for further action
This event will convene financiers (CSO/ MDs/ global heads) in a roundtable setting to discuss financing the transition.
