Forging a Just Future: Collaborative Strategies for Trade Justice in Transition Mineral Supply Chains

Open Society Foundation London 4th Floor Herbal House 8 Back Hill London, EC1R 5EN

About this Event

The global shift towards a green economy relies heavily on transition minerals, often sourced from resource-rich nations in the Global South. However, there is a significant risk that the frameworks governing their extraction and trade will perpetuate existing inequalities and extractivist relationships. Producer countries are not just sites of extraction; they are decisive forces in shaping the energy transition, provided the global rules on trade, investment, and finance are rewritten. This workshop, held during London Climate Action Week, offers a crucial opportunity for NGOs to converge, share insights, and build collective strategies to ensure these supply chains are equitable, just, and contribute to sustainable development in producer countries.

E+ Energy Transition Institute; Publish What You Pay; Institute for Climate and Society (iCS)

The E+ Institute is an independent Brazilian think tank that connects governments, industry, civil society, and academia to promote the energy transition and the green transformation of industry as key drivers of the country's socioeconomic development.
To this end, E+ fosters evidence-based dialogue through engagement with diverse stakeholders, the development of studies, and the dissemination of knowledge in the field of decarbonization — with a focus on the bioeconomy, the power sector, and industrial production, including the promotion of new green industrial investments in the country.

Publish What You Pay is a global network that works to build thriving societies by advocating for an energy transition that leaves no one behind. It amplifies the voices and addresses the needs of people living in countries dependent on oil, gas, and mining, fighting for a cleaner and more equitable energy future.

The Institute for Climate and Society (iCS) is a philanthropic organization that supports the fight against climate change. It focuses on Brazil through the use of a wide range of approaches and tools that range from institutional and financial support to non-profit organizations.
