Fit for a sustainable future: Creating a resilient, healthy, and affordable building stock in the UK and beyond
Royal Danish Embassy 55 Sloane Street LONDON SW1X 9SR
About this Event
Arrival 2pm for 2.30pm start
Drinks Reception 5pm-8pm
Access to resilient and affordable housing is a nascent, global concern. In the UK, Prime Minister Starmer has pledged to get Britain building again – starting with 1.5 million new homes across the country before the next general election is called in 2029. While discussions have been dominated by where these houses will be located and planning reforms to facilitate this, there has been limited attention on the sustainability of these homes and how they will advance climate ambitions in the built environment.
This event organised by VELUX and the Danish Embassy aims to inspire deeper thinking into the sustainability of these future homes and buildings, both in the UK and beyond. How can we align good energetic performance with well-being for people and planet? How do we define and measure what matters? What are some of the current best practices? How can we get from single projects to scale? How do we elevate the importance of the built environment at global level?
Join us for an interactive discussion on the above and much more, with expertise and examples from Denmark, the UK and Europe, with key speakers including:
Muyiwa Oki (President, RIBA)
Esther Everett (London Legacy Corporation)
Sarah Allan (Chief Architect, HM Government)
John Nordon (Igloo Regeneration)
Victoria Burrows (Kompas VC)
Oliver Rapf (BPIE)
Christina Bruun Andersen (VELUX)
