Energy data roundtable

Sustainable Ventures, County Hall, Belvedere Rd, London

About this Event

The transition to net zero is one of the biggest challenges of the coming decade, with the electricity grid playing a central role. However, progress is hindered by a lack of accessible, high-quality energy data on energy assets and power flows. Much of the necessary information is either not collected or held by a few organisations, making it difficult for innovators and climate-focused organisations, particularly those working with AI, to develop effective solutions.

This fragmented data landscape stems from outdated policies that have not kept pace globally with a decentralised, renewables-driven energy system. The current lack of incentives for data sharing creates systemic barriers. To address this, we are driving an initiative for more energy data to be collected and to oblige service providers to appropriately share energy data. This will enable innovation from grid operators and the private sector, delivering an electricity grid with high levels of distributed renewable energy which is both efficient and reliable.

Open Climate Fix

Our goal is to bring the best of open-science & open-source software development to climate change mitigation. Our work is more accessible than most academic projects and focuses on building products with real-life use cases. We want our solutions to scale easily. Anyone can access, use and contribute to all our code via GitHub; and similarly all data is published openly on Hugging Face where permitted. Through such an approach we want to encourage more collaboration and lower the barrier to entry for researchers and innovators creating solutions for a smart electricity grid.
