Disability-inclusive Solutions for the Climate Crisis: Roundtable
304, Marshgate Building, University College London – East, 7 Sidings St, London E20 2AE, United Kingdom
About this Event
Join us for a full-day participatory roundtable and workshop exploring the intersection of disability inclusion and climate action.
Hosted by the Global Disability Innovation Hub (GDI Hub), and funded by our UK International Development AT2030 programme and UCL Grand Challenges, this event will bring together researchers, practitioners, and non-academic stakeholders to explore innovative, disability-inclusive approaches for tackling the global climate crisis.
Throughout the day, we’ll present existing evidence on inclusive urban climate action, convene thematic working groups, and hold cross-sector discussions spanning inclusive infrastructure, assistive technology, and disaster response.
Together, we’ll identify collaborative opportunities for research and practice, challenge siloed approaches to disability research, and explore how inclusive methods can drive systemic change for climate resilience. Lunch and refreshments are covered by the organisers and the day will conclude with an informal networking.
Please note that this free event is designed as a collaborative research activity at the University College London and participants will receive more information on the ethics and consent process after filling out the Expression of Interest form linked below. Participation is voluntary.
Global Disability Innovation Hub
Global Disability Innovation (GDI) Hub accelerates ideas into impact for a more just world —for disabled people, and all people. We are a world leading delivery and practice centre, an Academic Research Centre at University College London (UCL) and the first World Health Organization (WHO) Global Collaborating Centre on Assistive Technology. As an Academic Research Centre and Community Interest Company, our diverse portfolio and unique structure enables rapid translation of research into practice. GDI Hub is home to the UK International Development funded AT2030 programme which tests ‘what works’ to improve access to life-changing Assistive Technology (AT) for all.
Launched in 2016 as a legacy of the London 2012 Paralympic Games, our office and research lab continue to be based on the Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park, at UCL’s East London campus. GDI Hub works in 40+ countries, with a reach of more than 64 million people since 2016, developing homegrown technologies alongside new knowledge and research. In collaboration with global partners, we deliver accelerators and market shaping initiatives—building disability innovation ecosystems with a focus on Low-and Middle-Income Countries (LMICs).
