Constructing Change : Planning For Climate and Communities
Impact Hub London Euston, 1 Triton Square, London NW1 3DS
About this Event
In a city where “growth” often appears as cranes, construction, and constant redevelopment, what does it really mean to live in a growing London—especially in the Knowledge Quarter? As the built environment expands, so do its consequences: the construction industry remains a major driver of emissions and waste, reshaping both climate futures and everyday life.
As London races toward net zero, this event challenges the dominant narrative of progress. What if real growth meant repairing instead of replacing, working with what we already have, and placing communities at the centre of change?
We’ll explore how retrofitting, low-carbon design, and care-based planning can become tools for both climate action and social equity. But these pathways aren’t without challenges—retrofitting complex buildings, shifting mindsets, and meaningfully involving communities in technical processes all demand time, trust, and collaboration.
Through co-design, education, and inclusive decision-making, how do we empower local voices to shape the neighbourhoods they live in?
Join spatial practitioners, developers, educators, and community organisers as we ask: What does sustainable, equitable development look like—and how can we build it together?
