Celebrating Progress in Measuring Carbon in Advice and Design

AECOM 16th Floor City View Aldgate Tower 2 Leman Street Whitechapel, London E1 8FA

About this Event

Join us for a dynamic and solutions-focused session that builds on the 2024 report Estimating the Greenhouse Gas Impact of Advice and Designs, developed by the Pledge to Net Zero working group. This event will explore how environmental and engineering firms are beginning to quantify and reduce the carbon impact of their professional services. The session will centre on applied methods for measuring emissions linked to consultancy and design in infrastructure and environmental projects.

Reducing these emissions is critical to enable a net zero economy. However, addressing these emissions is not presently well understood as they fall outside the traditional emission categories identified within greenhouse gas (GHG) protocol.

We will spotlight emerging practices and share new case studies from organizations piloting the report’s three estimation methods.

Agenda Highlights:
• 08:30-09:00 – Breakfast & Networking
• 09:00-09:15 – Opening remarks, update from Pledge to Net Zero, and overview of the report’s methodology and intent
• 09:15-09:45 – A panel discussion featuring practitioners applying the methods across real-world projects and portfolios
• 09:45-10:15 – Interactive roundtable discussions: What’s working? What needs refinement?
• 10:15-10:30 – Next steps: Building consensus across the profession and aligning with frameworks such as PAS 2080 and the GHG Protocol
• 10:30 – Close

This event is aimed at sustainability leads, carbon specialists, and technical directors in engineering, environmental consultancy, architecture, and planning along with infrastructure owners, policy makers, and procurement professionals seeking to embed climate considerations earlier in the project lifecycle.

Objectives and Outcomes:
• Showcase early adopters and share lessons learned from using the carbon estimation methods outlined in the report.
• Encourage professional services firms to take the next step in quantifying and reporting advised and designed emissions.
• Build momentum for broader adoption and methodological refinement.
• Identify opportunities for cross-sector collaboration on carbon attribution standards.

AECOM and Pledge to Net Zero

AECOM are co-authors on the Pledge to Net Zero paper identifying three practical approaches for the environment and engineering sectors to estimate the greenhouse gas impact of advice and designs.

Pledge to Net Zero has been established to commit organisations from the environmental sector to take a leadership role in the transition to a Net Zero carbon economy.
