Burgess Park Midsummer Climate Festival
Burgess Park Southwark London SE5
About this Event
This year LCAW starts on Saturday 21st June, Midsummer’s Day.
We are marking this special day with a celebration of climate action in one of London’s unique green spaces, Burgess Park, in Southwark, South London.
Formerly a bomb-damaged site of devastated homes, factories, lime kilns, canals and lumber yards, Burgess Park has evolved phoenix-like from the ashes. The 56 hectare park, which lies between the Old Kent Road on the north and Walworth Road on the south, is now home to numerous community sports clubs, gardens, open air gyms, cafes, arts and culture organisations. They include a popular Angling lake, Chumleigh World Gardens, England’s oldest boxing club, the Olympic medal-winning Peckham BMX, memorable public art marking various chapters of local history, and much more.
The celebration will consist of a series of free community-led events such as stalls, walks, talks and workshops across Burgess Park on Saturday 21st June 2025. The Burgess Park Midsummer Climate Festival will raise awareness about the impact of climate change on the park, its visitors and local residents, wildlife, biodiversity, amenities and physical realm, showcase community responses and motivate climate action.
