AI in the Planetary Crisis: What Works, What’s Next
London Zoo, Outer Cir, London NW1 4RY
About this Event
Artificial intelligence holds real promise in helping tackle the climate and nature crises — from accelerating decarbonisation to transforming biodiversity monitoring. But the opportunities are often fragmented, technically complex or poorly understood by those in positions to act. At the same time, AI’s own energy demands and infrastructure risks raise urgent questions about how to deploy it both effectively and responsibly.
This roundtable brings together leading thinkers and researchers working at the frontier of AI, climate, and nature, alongside government representatives. Together, this group will explore the real-world potential — and limitations — of AI in accelerating action on the twin crises of climate change and nature loss, including considering its relevance to conservation, biodiversity monitoring, low-carbon transitions and early-warning systems for climate risks.
The conversation will be grounded, practical, and future-facing. Participants will leave with a stronger shared understanding of the functions of AI in climate and nature, clearer insights into where the most promising applications lie, and an interest in how these technologies can be deployed ethically, equitably, and at scale.
