About this Event
Accelerating Climate Action Through Urban Planning:
This event will bring together city leaders and key partners to explore how urban planning can be leveraged as a powerful tool for transformative climate action. The event will showcase bold city leadership and practical solutions from around the world to help cities embed climate priorities into spatial planning and decision-making.
Featured highlights include the Jameel C40 Urban Planning Climate Labs, a partnership between C40 and Community Jameel that supports cities in integrating climate action across all municipal functions. The programme will also spotlight C40’s partnership with Gensler, focused on mainstreaming climate action in urban planning through design-led, climate-positive approaches. The event will conclude with reflections from a youth climate leader on the road to COP30, followed by a networking reception. For more information, please contact egoddard@c40.org
C40, Community Jameel and Gensler
C40 is a network of nearly 100 mayors of the world’s leading cities working to deliver the urgent action needed right now to confront the climate crisis and create a future where everyone, everywhere, can thrive. Mayors of C40 cities are committed to using a science-based and people-focused approach to help the world limit global heating to 1.5°C and build healthy, equitable and resilient communities. We work alongside a broad coalition of representatives from labour, business, the youth climate movement and civil society to support mayors to halve emissions by 2030 and help phase out fossil use while increasing urban climate resilience and equity.
At Gensler, the value of our work stems from its positive impact on the human experience. We are a dynamic and collaborative design firm uniting creativity, research, and innovation to solve complex problems for our clients. Our work challenges conventional ideas about architecture and the built environment. We aren’t just designing buildings—we are reimagining cities and places that make a difference in people’s lives. Founded in 1965, Gensler has built a team of 6,000 professionals who partner with clients in 100 countries each year. Everything we do is guided by our mission: to create a better world through the power of design.
Community Jameel advances science and learning for communities to thrive. An independent, global organisation, Community Jameel was launched in 2003 to continue the tradition of philanthropy and community service established by the Jameel family of Saudi Arabia in 1945. Community Jameel supports scientists, humanitarians, technologists and creatives to understand and address pressing human challenges in areas such as climate change, health and education.
