About this Event
Youth-Led Dialogue on Climate Resilience:
Perspectives from London and Nicosia
Join us for an engaging panel discussion that brings together two capital cities—London (UK) and Nicosia (Cyprus)—to exchange insights and solutions to urban resilience challenges.
This event will explore how these cities, both managing dense urban cores and growing populations within limited spaces, can learn from each other’s experiences to build a more sustainable future.
Key Themes
The discussion will be divided into two panels:
Panel 1: Blue-Green Spaces in Urban Environments
- Nicosia has the unique opportunity to integrate and develop a new city park, learning from London’s extensive experience in embedding green infrastructure into its urban landscape.
- How nature-based solutions can transform urban areas.
The role of youth-led design in shaping climate-resilient public spaces. - Measuring the long-term impacts of blue-green infrastructure.
- Funding models and collaboration for sustainable green infrastructure.
Panel 2: Managing Extreme Heat Resilience and Drought
- With rising temperatures and urban heat island effects, London can gain valuable insights from Nicosia’s approach to tackling extreme heat and drought challenges.
- How data and forecasting tools support heat resilience planning.
- Opportunities for youth to lead innovation in climate-adaptive design.
- The role of technology, such as smart materials and data-driven design, in creating heat-resilient infrastructure.
- Integrating heat resilience into urban development and building codes.
Youth at the Forefront
The panels will feature at least 50% youth participation, emphasizing the vital role young engineers play in driving innovation and transformative change. While these fresh perspectives are crucial, young professionals often lack the platforms to make their voices heard. This event aims to bridge that gap, positioning youth as key contributors to the climate resilience dialogue.
